      peace comes

      from all directions

      behind the waterfall                

      naked woman bathing

      wet intimate beauty


           journey

   waking early morning

    hearing river calling

     poet's naked body

   entering brautigan creek

    currents carrying soul

  floating to new existence

  somewhere beyond heaven

    peaceful resting place

        Made for two-

        a woman sits

        awaiting company.

                           Bird Watching          

        On river's shore              

        heron stands,

        watches

        current flow past.

      A blue hummingbird

      sips nectar from hollyhocks-

      warm sweet sugar days


               Growing by the creek

               fresh mint to be crushed by hand-

               frosty Mint Juleps

       decisions are hard

            fitting my palm against

            the face of the rock

            listening deeply to feel

            it's pulse, listening to

            the rhythm of breaths,

            whispers, wisps of winds,

            scents, of meadow and pine

            listening to the voices of

            sandstone and granite speaking

              to be patriotic.  I

              am not one of them.

                   I love my country 

                   as much as I love my dog.

                   His name?  Jefferson.

     but here we are

             no thought to change anything

         Civilization itself

                 Where is the beauty, the Hope
                  in the horror of it, you ask.
                  Underneath a hard, bitter
                  casement of seed is there
                  an invisible bloom, a bud

                  Are we the Hope of it?
