                               Ian Mullins
                            Liverpool, England

                           scents of mown grass
                           and burnt apple pie –
                           finally a summer

dog loose on the beach –
                       the wind whistles louder
                       than his master

                                                   haiga from Karen O'Leary

         poet pl. wick
       Empire, Colorado

  chickadees  swaying
  from thin aspen branches
  through the windows

  watching them

       strands of your hair

       whispers of last night
                                                         artist Ed Markowski

              Mt Baldy Zen Center, California

     in a clear moraine lake
     fire-bellied trout glide--
     away over granite spurs
     and off into the clouds

     their shadows dissolving
     to stay behind...

                           forgetful--
                           left the door ajar
                           squirrel stayed the night

                           raisins and oatmeal--
                           no longer on this
                           morning's breakfast menu

              poet Carl Mayfield
              Rio Rancho, New Mexico

              Praise Be What's Next

                                                            yellow
                                                            with a gentle wave

  contains 4 ideas,
  4 times his squared root.

  The 4-dimensional cat
  contains more ideas,
  but she's not telling.

                           poet t. kilgore splake
                           Calumet, Michigan

                             poet pressing further

                               until totally alone

                            finally taking off mask

                     old river town
                     the damselfly dons
                     her finest wings

                        sun specks
                        the old maple's whirligigs
                        spinning still

                              poet Sandra María Esteves
                              New York, New York
                              from Bluestown Mockingbird Mamba
                              Arte Público Press

Affirmations #2, There Is A Poet Inside You

                          Let the music come out.
Give her space to speak her name
                          crying to be heard.

How she sees through visible indifference.
Her sharp eye an architect's pen, electric,
                          deciphering cosmic symphonies,
                          on a mission,
                          beautiful as air, shaping wind,
a carpenter's knife edged in rays of light,
soft, fire blue, barely a horizon.

poet Teresinka Pereira

TREE

The tree has freedom
without looking
at the world
But the sky can see it
in the storm,
and the wind
may disturb its peace.
I look at its shade,
at the green leaf,
at the sculpture
of its branches,
and I think,
there is the perfection
in existence!

assistant editors Frosty, Tama:

     MACHINES

What would we do                       poet Judith Partin-Nielsen
without machines                              Longmont, Colorado
to write with, to clean,
to go shopping                                  things unfold
or go to church;                                as they do
to measure the                                  and even at that
blood in our veins,                             there is
to send messages by air,                       a special beauty
to climb to high floors,
to turn on lights,                        Endings #2
without microphones
to project the words                    folded flag from the casket
I love you!                          pressed against my heart
                                            even now feeling your arms
                                            tightly around me

            JUST AS I SUSPECTED

In a vision I heard this clearly whispered:

Study those who sing the most, but are free
            of criticism or praise.

Following that advice, things turned out
            just as I suspected:

I started spending more time with birds (and kitties).

umm, Frosty, you added kitties, didn't you...
Frosty:  "Mister Editor, I don't think Hafiz would mind!"
Well... I have to agree with you...

          poet Amy Hrynchuk
    Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada

            Hour of Need

    They were always near me
    and around me
    for most of my life.
    They never once stepped forwards
to ever help or aid me.
    But when it came
    to my hour of need,
    they showed up with their
    help and care.
    When my hour of need
turned into my hours of need,
    they did not leave me.
    But instead, showed more strength.

             poet Harry T. Roman
                   East Orange, New Jersey

    glowing TV through windows
    sounds of children laughing
    small town summer nights

                             red and gold morning
                             false promises
                             rain by noon

    warbling still
    my bird of youth
    this silver-backed spring

                         swollen, stiff old hands
                         tingle yet and tremble
                         caressing my dog’s soft fur

poet James B. Peters
             Cottontown, Tennessee

in the stillness
of the evening
the distant train

          into the rising sun
          one crow
          flying past the window

                   before the storm
                   a stillness
